Law and Management Student’s Point of View

I just finished reading a book titled, “Justice is Done”. It compiles some of the most interesting cases in Singapore. It is the written version of “True Files” and “Crime Watch”.

I have always been fascinated by how the police solve crimes and mysteries. From books by Enid Blyton to Agatha Christie, I have read a lot of mysteries.

I remember how I became a student of Law & Management. It was Open House at Temasek Polytechnic. Someone passed me a flyer to look for a suspect involved in a murder. Then it was the talent show by the Law and Management students.

Remembering my interest in mysteries, I decided to choose Law and Management. It was quite different from what I expected. I thought that it was like those Singapore dramas where the lawyers teamed up with the police officers to seek the truth.

As legally trained people, we needed to believe in the client’s version of their stories and defend them with our best effort. Being in the legal profession is not as glamourous as people in the society thinks. We need to do lots of research and read through cases that may be at least ten pages long. Once, I read a 30-page case for my project and discovered that it was not relevant to my project.

Being in the legal industry, you need have patience, human skills (e.g. communication skills), conceptual skills(problem solving skills) and lastly technical skills(good grasp of legal knowledge).

In all, having a positive attitude and the above skills should guide you on your way to success.
