It's a Life Story...
Thursday, June 29, 2006
Tuesday Night at 9 p.m.
I switched Channel 5 to watch "Seoul Far Seoul Good". Missed it last week. Okay, it ended and "Life Story" replaced it. Nothing better to watch so continued watching.

Lim Ah Lee, a ex-leper, is the main character. After he became a leper at a young age, his mother had trouble to take care of him and his other siblings. Later the doctor diagnosed his illness and told him his legs must be amputated in order to save his life. Imagine the horror.

He was depressed at the loss of his two legs. His mother brought him some toys on her last visit and promised to visit him soon. Months passed but there was no sign of his mother. A nurse went to his house and realised his family has moved away to an unknown place. This was his second setback but he tried to bear with it.

17 years later, Ah Lee studied for his O levels and has been praised for a job well done by his boss. He met a pretty nurse while collecting his medicine and she praised him for studying in school. This is so sweet.

The doctor told Ah Lee he needed another operation and has to delay his studies again. Ah Lee was angry but he still went for the operation. The nurse encouraged him by saying that he now has another year to prepare for O levels.

When Ah Lee passed the O levels with flying colours, he rushed to tell the nurse his results. Seeing her chatting with a handsome doctor happily, he started to be cold towards her.

Ah Lee was a kind person as he gave money to his friend in financial difficulties.

Just before Lunar New Year, Ah Lee did great calligraphy in chun lian. Later, he was told the home he lived in was going to close down after New Year and he was allocated to another home.

He felt strange in such a place and a nurse called him Curry because there was someone called Ah Lee already. He was cold towards the nurse who saw his painting and told him there are courses he can take if he liked. Indeed, he took up drawing.

Ah Lee discovered a greeting card competition after a while and got the application form. Being used to the hospital by now, he was slightly nicer to the nurse. The nurse discovered the form and asked him why he did not fill the form. It turns out Ah Lee thought that a disabled person should not join. The nurse tried to encourage him and later dared him which he accepted.

After some time, Ah Lee felt he was useless and the nurse gave him the competition's results. She said, "You did not win.....but you won third place," with a smile. He could not believe. Ah Lee went for a walk and saw a boy with an plush elephant. He thought about a old plush toy his mother gave him and was inspired to do a painting of an elephant which was well-recognised in the world. He also continued to join and win art competitions.

Ah Lee said he wanted to prove to the other handicapped people that they are not useless at all.

His story touched me. I admit that I like to complain a lot so compared to him, my trioubles are just peanuts. One should be satisfied and appreciate what you have now.

I am so LUCKY!
Tuesday, June 27, 2006
Today I actually wanted to go to TP at 10am to do some research before going for lessons. Then I changed my mind and decided to leave at 11am instead in order to watch Travel Spies, a travel programme on Discovery Channel as the name suggested. The 3 hosts went undercover, visited two hotel-ranches thingy, and rate the hotels.

At 11am, before I went out, I decided to check my handphone for calls and messages. I had missed Sandy's call but I read Dominic's message first. I was surprised-there was NO tutorial and instead we need to consult the project manager, Mr Mathavan for the project.

Just then, Sandy called and asked me to confirm with Dominic. As my team member, He did not only confirmed the message and also volunteered to arrange the meeting. Nice. Lucky I never go. I am so lucky!

Now I am just waiting for his reply and watching 5 strangers(Travel Journalists, also known as TJs) who visit Cairns together in Discovery Travel and Living's 5 Takes. Cool programme and I learnt a lot. My favorite TJ is culture vulture Renee. She has a interesting personality.

You may think the Discovery Channel are for geeks but not totally true. Discovery Travel and Living is also about culture and travel. I love the programmes as I understand more about the world. It is impossible for me to travel all over the world in my life. So for places I can't go, I get a view about it on my comfy chair and slurp my milo as I understand life in such places.

That's a lot, and as the Looney Tunes say at the end, 'That's All, Folks!'

The Little Mermaid And Her Prince
Saturday, June 10, 2006
Today my aunt's friends, Damien and Ariel, came over to my house to teach the 4 sisters(Mum, Aunt Irene, Aunt Zelda & Aunt Lindsay) to make their own pizza, clam chowder, spaghetti, etc.

The first joke I made was of course calling Damien 'Prince' to tease Ariel about Disney's favourite sea princess, 'The Little Mermaid'.

Upon seeing olive oil, I asked her why Popeye hate the French(should be Italian) and the answer is because they eat olive oil(Olive Oyl).

I know I sounded lame but this brings us closer to becoming friends. Wouln't you make friends with a person that makes you smile? Unless you are a ICE QUEEN.

Anyway, the food is delitious & scrumplicious(scrumptious +delicious).

Yummy! Hope Mum will make some of these goodies in the near future.

Believe It or Not!
Friday, June 09, 2006
The following statement is the truth, the only truth and nothing but the truth:
Today an idiot called Jan (THAT'S ME!) swallowed half a fishball! The fishball was at the edge of my throat falling down soon so I swallowed it. Luckily, nothing happened. I was not choked and could even continue my lunch. It's a good thing I was so used to eating big tablets of medicine that my throat developed into a large tube for the fishball to be swallowed.

Maybe I should join Ripley's Believe It or Not.
